Choose your beach towel before leaving on vacation
Summer is here, announcing at the same time the approach of the big vacations. July, August or Indian summer, whatever your period of choice, it's time to talk about beachwear.
Essential to bring you comfort after your swim, beach towels must have a place of choice in your suitcase. But you still need to know how to choose models that are as absorbent as they are soft, and above all, very resistant. Let us guide you.
TOWELS AND BEACH TOWELS: WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE?
For short, it would be easy to think that towels and beach towels are one and the same. In fact, there is a subtle difference in size.
- The beach towel is the classic size, 100 x 170 cm.
- The beach towel is slightly larger, often measuring around 100 x 180 cm.
Both are designed to offer a lot of comfort and above all enough room to lie down and dry off.
There is a third type of product for your outings at the beach: the fouta. Here, no cotton terry but a light fringed fabric, often declined in larger sizes (we are talking 100 x 200 cm, even 200 x 300 cm for family sizes!).
HOW TO CHOOSE YOUR BEACHWEAR ?
Now that you can distinguish a beach towel from a beach sheet, how do you know if the product you have in your hands is right for you?
FIND THE RIGHT MATERIAL...
As for the material, we recommend that you opt for cotton. A true classic in beachwear, terry is made for this type of adventure. Perfectly absorbent and very resistant, this material never fails when it comes to robustness and well-being.
In addition, cotton is extremely easy to care for, which makes it easier for you to care for it every day. A blessing during the vacations, especially when our equipment is not necessarily the same as at home.
...AND THE RIGHT WEIGHT
When it comes to choosing bath linens or, in this case, beach linens, one criterion must be carefully observed: the weight. Don't worry, this term hides a very simple notion.
Remember, we already talked about it in our article dedicated to the choice of its bath linen. The grammage is the density of fibers present in the material. It can also be summarized as follows: the grammage represents the weight of the towel, calculated per square meter.
The idea is that the higher the weight of your towels, the softer and thicker they will be. The right weight? It is between 400 and 600 g/m². It's up to you to decide which type of product to choose, based on your needs and your desire for comfort.
MAINTENANCE - EASY! - OF BEACH TOWELS
Whether you're on vacation at the beach or lounging by the pool, your towel will need to be cleaned after each use. This is an easy rule to follow and will have the advantage of preserving the fibers of the linen, especially after a trip to the sea where sand and salt could show their harmfulness.
Another recommendation for the maintenance of your bath linen: it is not necessary to add fabric softener to the machine at the time of washing. This type of product has an influence on the absorption capacity of the model. Instead, add a glass of white vinegar directly into the softener compartment. Your towels will come out as soft as you like!
If you notice some persistent sunscreen marks, even after washing, consider simply rubbing the stained area with a little water and Marseille soap. Rinse with warm water and let dry. The last of the dirt will be completely gone.
