How to keep your linen white?
In the living room, the kitchen or the bedroom, wherever it is, white linen always makes a big impact. Simple and elegant, it easily finds its place in all types of interiors and decorations.
ALTESSE white bed linen, METEORE linen tablecloth or BELLEM cotton bath set, you love your Alexandre Turpault linen and want to keep it shining? There are a few tricks you should know. Here are our most valuable tips for keeping your white linen as bright as the day it was worn.
A FEW RULES FOR THE EFFECTIVE CARE OF WHITE LINEN
SEPARATE YOUR LAUNDRY
As you already know, white and colors don't mix. So, when you wash your white linens, remember to separate them from all your colored or black linens. Printed sheets, pastel towels: these items can bleed in the wash and leave a slight gray cast on the white linen. To be on the safe side, use white laundry only.
WASH AT THE RIGHT TEMPERATURE
Light-colored sheets, towels, dishcloths and other tablecloths are more susceptible to stains and should be washed at a sufficiently high temperature. Washing at 60°C, or even 90°C depending on the manufacturer's cleaning instructions, will not only keep white linen perfectly clean, but will also preserve its shine.
DRY YOUR LAUNDRY IN AN APPROPRIATE WAY
For drying, there are several alternatives. During the summer, your white napkins, bathrobes and bed linen can be air dried on a simple clothesline. If they are made of natural fibers, they can even be placed in the sun, which will bleach and disinfect the linen. In the middle of winter, when the weather is not conducive to outdoor drying, a trip to the dryer is allowed. But be sure to separate colors and whites.
GRANDMA'S TIPS FOR KEEPING WHITE SHINY
THE LEMON
Did you know that lemon is a bleaching agent? In addition to being delicious, this fruit can be used to remove certain stains in a gentle and natural way. But how to use it properly?
Lemon is effective in removing yellow marks caused by perspiration. Squeeze the juice of a lemon onto the stain and leave for 15 to 30 minutes before rinsing your clothes. You can also pour your usual dose of detergent into your washing machine and add the juice of half a lemon.
Last solution, if you wash your clothes by hand: soak them in boiling water with the juice of one or two lemons.
BAKING SODA
Known for its many uses, baking soda is a powerful ally in domestic cleaning, especially for laundry! As a deodorant and natural detergent, it removes all types of stains and helps make your laundry more shiny.
To keep your laundry whiter than white, simply add one to two tablespoons of baking soda to your regular dose of laundry detergent each time you wash.
WHITE VINEGAR
White vinegar is a natural white reviver that is extremely easy to use. Simply mix a half or full cup of distilled white vinegar with your laundry and start your usual program.
Want to remove a particular stain? Spray a little white vinegar directly on the affected area before putting your laundry in the machine.
If your linens have really lost their luster, you can also soak them in water with a little white vinegar overnight before washing.
